Graduate Profiles

As part of Governor Lujan Grisham’s updated graduation requirements (HB 171) signed into law in 2024, each school district and charter school are required to create a graduate profile that aligns with New Mexico’s existing commitment to student success and future planning via the Next-Step Plan. A graduate profile outlines the key cognitive, personal, and interpersonal skills students should develop by the time they graduate. It serves as a community’s shared vision for student success, guiding education to ensure graduates are prepared for future learning, careers, and life.

Why create graduate profiles?

Graduate profiles encourage students to take ownership of their learning by setting goals and working toward mastery.
Graduate profiles help ensure education aligns with employer needs and postsecondary expectations, strengthening career readiness.
Graduate profiles prioritize essential skills for all students while valuing unique cultural identities across communities and districts.
